Fake Magazine
I recently wrote and illustrated a piece for independent fashion and arts magazine FAKE. Thankfully I didn’t have to write about either fashion or art, I wrote about my take on the word ‘fake’.
You can buy a copy from the FAKE shop, but get one quick because it’s almost sold out.

To Do Lists For Do-Ers
I write so many “to do” lists in a week it’s ridiculous. I get crazily hung up on making sure they’re neat, as if I would get nothing done if they were messy. I even rewrite them sometimes to juggle the order of which tasks need doing first, rather than actually just DOING the things on the list.
Today I found these to do lists on Mrs Easton’s blog. They’re lists made by her brother and his partner. I definitely need to take a leaf out of their book, it looks like they actually just get shit done.

This video for Pirate’s Life by We Cut Corners is amazing.
It was made by Kijek / Adamski using only marker pens and paper! You can see some really nice behind the scenes shots on their blog.
Jeff Bridges
Have a look at these amazing photo books made by the actor Jeff Bridges. He’s made them for a few of his recent films and it’s well worth visiting his website to have a look through them all.
I’ve been wanting to make some zines for a long time combining photos from my around the world trip with some hand drawn lettering. So inspired by The Dude I’m going to sort through my iPhoto this weekend and finally get this idea moving.
You will never know unless you try.
That’s what people always tell you.
And it’s good advice.
But what they don’t tell you is that sometimes you will try your hardest, and you still won’t know.
And maybe you never will.
That’s good advice too.
On Saturday I went to see Miranda July give a “masterclass” at the BFI London Film Festival. Miranda is one of my favourite artists and it was incredibly inspiring to have the chance to hear her speak. It was even more inspiring to know that she thinks exactly the same things as everyone else. My favourite quote was when she was talking about being scared to start her next project in case it didn’t work or no one liked it.
“I realised that everyone I admire has had to go on and produce the next thing and the next thing.”
I wrote down pages and pages of what she said, and I took so much away from hearing her talk for an hour or so. I started to write a huge post detailing how I related to each of the things that she said. But it wasn’t really going anywhere. And I think it’s much better if I just let you browse through a few of her quotes, and hopefully you will take something from her words too.
This is the cover I designed for this week’s lecool magazine.
Lecool is an awesome weekly roundup of things that are going on in London. I always enjoy reading it, until I remember I don’t live in London, so I’m essentially just reading about loads of cool things I won’t go to. Anyway, go check out this week’s edition.
There’s a mini interview with me to read on there too.
This is a promotional magazine I’ve just completed for Carpet Bombing Culture. They’re an independent publisher from the UK, and they’re also the guys who are publishing my book, Quoteskine Volume 1.
The mag is designed to promote their books to new audiences and uses a snippet from each book as a kind of article. Obviously me being me I wanted to fill this magazine with loads of hand drawn type, but the deadline was really, really tight. So it was a case of just getting it done. I’m still pretty happy with how it turned out. And I’m sure there will be many more projects where there’s more time for me to draw letters.
